Tallahassee is the state capital of Florida and is one of the primary locations for agriculture, along with trade. This beautiful city is home to several famous educational institutions including Florida State University and Florida A&M University. The name “Tallahassee” is derived from the Muskogean Indians meaning “abandoned fields” or “old town” probably due to the large areas of open land that were discovered before the city was settled. Tallahassee is a scenic city with lots of hills, gardens, and even a few palm trees. Summers are very warm, and winters can actually chill down quite a bit due to Tallahassee’s northern location within the state. Vacationers from all across the country, including Florida travelers, come to Tallahassee to explore the unique sights and sounds this wonderful city has to offer. The things to do list for Tallahassee includes shopping, museum browsing, festivals, and recreational parks. The Apalachicola National Forest is the perfect way to start off a Florida vacation in Tallahassee. Visitors can fish, camp, and hike in this peaceful, scenic park and settle down for a fun picnic out in the sun. Florida travelers can also take a trip back into history when they visit the Pebble Hill Plantation. This 19th century old world plantation was rebuilt by Abram Garfield after a major fire in the 1930’s. Visitors will find lavish antiques and other collectibles inside, and a log cabin schoolhouse, along with other interesting exhibits outdoors. Car buffs want to be sure to check out the Tallahassee Antique Car Museum. Antique cars dating back to the 1860’s are on display here, along with numerous other cool showcases that will simply blow your mind! This upscale resort has 35 scenic rooms, a lush green golf course, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and a jogging trail for those who want to get their early morning exercise in before the day starts.

Restaurants and other places to eat are also abundant throughout the Tallahassee area. If you love seafood, then Barnacle Bill’s Seafood Restaurant is the place to go. Mahi-mahi, tuna, shrimp, oysters, and other succulent seafood plates are just a few of the tongue tasting menu items available at Barnacle Bills. There is also a raw oyster bar, a billiards area, and even a dance floor downstairs in this lively restaurant. Chez Pierre is a wonderful French restaurant in Tallahassee. There is a wonderful wine list consisting of French and California style wines, an outdoor eating area, and artistic environment that offers stylish relaxation.
