Things to Do in Miami


The gorgeous city of Miami, Florida has all the makings of a tropical paradise. Every year, thousands of vacationers flock to the beaches of Miami to catch some rays and engage in the numerous water sports around the area. Miami has been called the “The Gateway of the Americas” because of its language and cultural ties to Central America and South America. Many people speak Spanish in this bustling Florida city, and Miami has become a centralized financial center critical to the larger Hispanic community. Miami is also known for its gay friendly atmosphere and accommodations. Many LGBT vacationers come to Miami seeking an exotic getaway and entertaining things to do. So what makes Miami so special? Well besides the great year round weather and rowdy beach parties along the South Beach area, LGBT travelers will never run out of things to do in this fascinating south Florida city.

The famous Hollywood Beach Boardwalk area is filled with bars, clubs, and great shopping venues for the fast paced traveler. You will notice many people enjoy rollerblading and biking along this strip. This city also has many recreational park attractions. The Monkey Jungle allows you to explore animals within their natural habitat. The animals are not caged like traditional zoo animals, and you will be fascinated at how the monkeys interact with one another in their spacious environment. This is a great attraction especially if you have children. If you are traveling during the holiday season, be sure to check out Santa’s Enchanted Forest, open from November to January. This huge theme park lights up the tropical evenings with entertaining holiday shows, rides, and games. There is also a 90-foot Christmas tree towering high above the park! Other gay friendly things to do include a trip over to Deering Estate for some fun history lessons. The Tequesta Indians used to roam this land, and it is home to many rare plant species and land forests. The Stone House and Richmond Cottage are located on this land and offer daily tours to the general public.

Gay friendly Miami also has ample hotels and other accommodations for the all-important traveler. LGBT vacationers can stay at one of the local hotel chains, which offer quality gay friendly accommodations such as free breakfast, 24-hour room service, and pool/patio access. Some LGBT travelers may want more gay friendly Miami hotel accommodations and decide to go a little more upscale. The Marriott Doral Golf Resort and Spa is located on 650 lush tropical acres of scenic land. There are numerous golf courses here and many championship style tournaments for guests who enjoy playing golf. Other gay friendly accommodations at the Marriott Doral Golf Resort and Spa include a fitness center, spa/massage sessions, hot tub access, a fireplace, and extracurricular accommodations like tennis, fishing, and bicycling. LGBT vacationers will also find bed & breakfast accommodations all throughout Miami. These secluded stopovers offer intimate privacy, romantic settings, and time to unwind from the real world.

LGBT travelers will also find gay friendly Miami restaurants and gay friendly places to eat all over the city. Menu items range from Brazilian specialties and Chilean dishes to BBQ restaurants and pizza parlors. The Blue Door at the Delano offers an inviting atmosphere of elegance, and a French based menu that will make your mouth water. Also be sure to check out Mario the Baker for outstanding pizza and Casa Panza for festive Spanish delicacies and a lively atmosphere.
